Albert Dock with waterfront setting is situated in the largest group of Grade 1 listed buildings in the UK. It houses many award winning visitor attractions incl. Tate Liverpool, Maritime Museum, Beatles Story etc. The group will not enter any of these attractions - sightseeing from outside. The tour will continue to Liverpool Pier Head. Around the Pier Head are reminders of Liverpool's varied past memorials to the Titanic and World War Two. While the great buildings that dominate the waterfront known as the 'Three Graces' are evindence of the wealth generated by Liverpool's position as the second city of the empire. Now the group will be heading to the centre of Liverpool, where they would pass the William Brown Street. In this street is located the Walker Art Gallery, home to outstanding works by Rubens, Rembrandt Hogarth etc - again visit only from outside. The group can visit the Gallery in their own time. The next stop would be the Metropolitan Cathedral with a visit inside - the Roman Catholic Cathedral opened in 1967 with its modern, circular design and glorius multi-couloured windows. Entrance is free, donation welcome. As the last stop would be Liverpool Cathedral - the group will have the opprtunity to visit inside the largest Anglican Cathedral in Britain and one of the great buildings of the twentieh century. The Cathedral abounds in superlatives: highes gothic arches, largest organ and heaviest ring of bells. Entrance free, donation welcome. 1 DAY GUIDED TOUR CHESTER 35 pounds / personChester is a city in the English county of Cheshire, near the border with North Wales. Established in Roman times, it used to have a port and in medieval times it was a wealthy trading centre.It is a popular place for shopping, especially in the part known as The Rows. This is a series of medieval covered walkways with shops on two levels. The Rows are in the centre of the old town, around four roads: Eastgate Street, Watergate Street, Bridge Street and Northgate Street The guided tour will start with a must see of Chester – The Chester Cathedral - a beautiful cathedral with a fascinating story. Originally a Saxon Minster, then rebuilt as a Benedictine Abbey, this magnificent building has been the Cathedral of the Diocese of Chester since 1541. The Cathedral houses one of the most complete medieval monastic complexes in the country. Intricately carved Quire stalls which are almost 800 years old and considered to be the finest in the UK. The tour will continue with a walking circuit of Chester`s ancient defensive walls. Walking the complete circuit will give you wondrous views down into the city and a fantastic insight into Chester's long history. The last stop would be The Rows, a shop-a-holics heaven, with 1000 shops - from high street brands to designer boutiques hidden behind the historic facades of the black and white buildings which dominate the city centre. |
